Cardi B recently released her latest single, "Up," and is already responding to accusations that the song was copied from someone else.
Shortly after the song's Friday release, New Jersey artists Mir Pesos and Mir Fontane accused her of ripping their 2020 song "Stuck." Pesos and Fontane took to Twitter to post side by side shots of their music video and Cardi's so viewers could notice the similarities between the hooks.
Cardi B's fans pointed out that Mir Pesos and Mir Fontane released their song on September 15, 2020, while Cardi previewed hers on August 7, 2020 during Instagram Live session with Megan Thee Stallion. Cardi B retweeted the post and said she had never heard of the artists accusing her of ripping off their single.
"Naaa im the type of person that avoids problems & court days," she tweeted. "If i get inspired by a song I wouldn't mind giving a percentage or couple of thousand but I never Hurd if this man. I'm glad while I was recording this song in August I was playing wit the hook on this live."
Fontane responded by posting another video where "Stuck" was previewed on August 6, one day before Cardi's Live session.
"We previewed 'STUCK' on August 6th at the end of this video and recorded it even earlier than that, Respectfully," Fontane wrote.
Cardi B and her fans started pointing out that the phrase, "up then it's stuck," is commonly used. Genius also made a website post listing various artists who have used different variations of the phrase, such as Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Yung Bleu, Kevin Gates, Yungeen Ace, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Sada Baby, Stunna 4 Vegas, and more.
Despite the back and forth and similarities in cadences, Cardi B backed away from the argument by tweeting, "F*** the drama. RUN THE NUMBERS UP!!!"
