A manhunt is underway after 23-year-old Staten Island producer Jahade Chancey was killed at his recording studio this past weekend.
The studio's doorbell camera captured the incident, which begins with two armed men crossing the street and preparing to ring the doorbell. One of the men, armed with an assault rifle, is shown ringing the doorbell and waiting for Chancey to answer.
Once Chancey answers, the man starts firing his weapon while the second man starts shooting his pistol. After multiple shots, the two are seen fleeing the scene. Police say Chancey was shot several times in the back before getting transported to Staten Island University Hospital where he passed away from his injuries.
"They took away a beautiful child," said Lashon Stockton, Chancey's mother. "My son is an entertainer, what they call a hype man. Always dancing. He loved old-school music. No children, never been in jail, I don’t think he ever had a fight. He had no beef with anybody. His friends are great, so I know it wasn’t a setup."
Police are unclear on if Chancey was the intended target. According to Stockton, her son's friends tried stopping the killers during the attack.
"When they were opening the door, the person was trying to push in, so they were holding the door," Stockton explained. "They didn't even see that he had a weapon."
As of now, no arrests have been made. Sources say one of the suspects is 5-feet-8, 150 pounds, with a tattoo under his eye and short dreadlocks, while the other is described as 6 feet and wearing black sweats and a dark jacket.
Demonlow Studios, which Chancey co-owned with friends, had just opened in August. The recording studio has been used by local rap artists Snoop, Bellagio, and BroGod, according to its website.
