Donald Trump spoke with the media on Tuesday (January 12) before heading off to Alamo, Texas to tour a portion of the border wall that was constructed during his time in office.
Trump was asked about his tweets leading up to his supporters storming the U.S. Capitol, which left five people dead, including two officers. Before the riots, Trump tweeted, "We fight like hell, and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore." He also told his followers that he would march down to the Capitol with them to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country." However, he watched the chaos erupt from the safety of the White House.
When aksed about claims that he incited insurrection, Trump told the media, "So if you read my speech, and many people have done it, and I’ve seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television, it’s been analyzed, and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate."
