Famous sneaker reseller Benjamin Kickz was arrested on robbery charges after an altercation at The Fontainebleau Hotel at Miami Beach on New Year's Eve.
Authorities say Benjamin Kickz, whose real name is Benjamin Kapelushnik, and his group of friends got into a verbal disagreement with 19-year-old Luel Alemu and his group of friends. Kapelushnik reportedly believed Alemu had taken a photo of him without his permission and demanded the man's phone.
After Alemu denied taking a photo, Kapelushnik took the 19-year-old's phone at the entrance of the hotel shortly before his group allegedly attacked Alemu. The state attorney's office said the assault left Alemu with serious injuries that still require hospitalization and surgery.
Katherine Fernandez Rundle, the State Attorney and prosecutor for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of the Miami-Dade County, announced on Thursday that 21-year-old Kapelushnik was arrested for the incident.
"Internet fame or celebrity grants no one the right to violate the law," Rundle wrote on Twitter. "The actions that put a young man in the hospital are crimes, plain and simple. The accumulated evidence, once placed before our criminal court, will make that point clear."
Kapelushnik is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the Dade County Jail and has been charged with strongarm robbery, which is a second-degree felony.
Benjamin Kickz is known for reselling sneakers to celebrity clients, such as DJ Khaled, Drake, and Odell Beckham Jr.
