Trump has used Twitter as a means to try and control the narrative of the moves being made during his time in the White House, as well as a battleground against media, including the Twitter platform itself. Now, Twitter has revealed that the official US presidential accounts will be wiped clean of millions of Trump followers before being handed over to President-elect Joe Biden.
Reports noted that Joe Biden’s team actually “fought” against the plan, but Twitter made the final call. This is a step in the opposite direction from Barack Obama’s transition to Trump.
The digital director for Joe Biden took to Twitter and said, “In 2016, the Trump administration absorbed all of President Obama's Twitter followers on @POTUS and @WhiteHouse - at Team 44's urging. In 2020, Twitter has informed us that as of right now, the Biden administration will have to start from zero.” Stay tuned for more details.
