According to reports, the wife of the late Kobe Bryant, Vanessa Bryant, is embroiled in a public spat with her mother that has now been taken to the courts. Vanessa's mother, Sofia Urbieta, has filed a lawsuit against her daughter for never paying her for nanny services. There are also claims of being evicted and not having the financial security her son-in-law allegedly promised her.
While the full details regarding the suit have yet to be disclosed, Vanessa has responded to the news. Speaking with a Spanish language outlet, Vanessa stated, "My mother keeps trying to find ways to get a financial windfall from our family. I have supported her for almost twenty years, and she was never my personal assistant or Kobe's or babysitter."
"For almost two decades, we arranged for my mother to live in our nearby properties at no cost to her because she had claimed that she had no money to buy her own home after her divorce," Vanessa continued. She spoke about her mother's "false accusations" about being kicked out of her home and forced to return the car she was gifted. "Even after that, I was willing to give my mother monthly support for the rest of her life and that was not good enough," said Vanessa.
However, months later, Vanessa said her mother got in touch with her "through intermediaries ... and demanded 5 million, a house and a Mercedes truck."
"Because I did not give in to her hurtful threats and monetary requests, she has gotten out of control making false and absurd claims. now she is trying to get more money than my husband and I spent to support her while she continues to collect her ex-husband's monthly alimony since 2004."
She called the lawsuit "frivolous, embarrassing, and promised nothing to my mother."
