Lil Wayne's former manager, Ronald Sweeney, is suing him for $20 million for unpaid commission.

Sweeney acted as Wayne's attorney in 2005 when he was helping him negotiate his contract with Cash Money, which was settled in 2018 with Sweeney's help. Around the time the negotiation was settled, Wayne asked Sweeney to fire his then-manager Cortez Bryant, which is when Sweeney took over as the rapper's manager.

Sweeney and Wayne agreed to a 17 percent commission, but Sweeney says he was fired in September 2018 when he claims Bryant and rapper/music executive Mack Maine "conspired to drive a wedge" between him and Wayne. A defamation suit against Bryant and Mack Maine in 2019 states, "Lil Wayne was induced to terminate his relationship with Sweeney based on false and misleading allegations by Mack and Cortez, both childhood friends of Lil Wayne. Mack and Cortez falsely told Lil Wayne, among other things, that Sweeney was improperly collecting fees to which he was not entitled and that the 10 percent fee Sweeney charged was exorbitant and against Lil Wayne’s best interests."

Nearly two years ago, Wayne sued Sweeney for $20 million charging him 10 percent for every deal he helped close, which the rapper says was twice the industry standard.
