According to reports, Twitter will begin rolling out its new feature, which will alert users when they attempt to like a "misleading" tweet. The social media giant hopes this feature will provide additional support in their efforts to stamp out misinformation. Twitter says adding "friction" to the past retweeting process has already yielded a 29 percent decrease in the spread of misinformation.

The warning will be applied to a tweet labeled as “misleading under [Twitter’s] election, COVID-19, and synthetic and manipulated media rules.” Those attempting to retweet a post already labeled will receive a full-page alert warning them that the tweet was determined to contain misinformation.

These new measures come on the heels of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey apologizing for the platform's concerted effort to restrict the spread of reporting on President-Elect Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden's, overseas business dealings.
