Tiny said she started singing at 12-years-old, which she considered late. However, she was raised in a musical family since her father was apart 60s vocal group, The Tams. Her father started training her after discouraging her from pursuing dance as a career and Tiny began pursuing musical success in Atlanta before the city became known as a music hub.
Despite the lack artists coming out of Atlanta, she still felt she could find success in the city because Jermaine Dupri, Dallas Austin, LA Reid, and Babyface were buzzing at the time. After joining Xscape, the group was discovered after singing at Jermaine Dupri's birthday but he wanted to put out Kriss Kross before working with the group. Dupri remained true to his word and followed up with group after successfully launching Kriss Kross. During the clip, Tiny also confirmed that Xscape was originally a quintet before explaining why the fifth member was let go from the group.
