30 officers were injured during violent protests Monday night in Philadelphia after protests broke out following the fatal police shooting of 27-year-old Walter Wallace, Jr., who authorities say had a knife. The shooting of Wallace was caught on film and later reposted by nationally known civil rights attorney Ben Crump.

There were an estimated 300 people who took to the streets of Philly to protest, leading to officers being hit with rocks, bricks, and other objects. Aside from the 30 injured officers, a 56-year-old female officer was hit by a pickup truck and hospitalized with a broken leg. A police car was also burned, and businesses in the area were looted. There were a reported 30 people arrested on charges of looting, rioting, and assaulting officers.

Police commissioner Danielle M. Outlaw said she has ordered a joint investigation alongside District Attorney Larry Krasner into the shooting of Wallace. Mayor Jim Kenney said he had watched "the video of this tragic incident" and spoke with Wallace's family.
