According to reports, Trump has selected Judge Amy Coney Barrett to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and will try to force Senate confirmation before Election Day. Barrett is the favorite among conservatives and is reportedly the only nominee who has met with Trump in-person.

"She was the plan all along," said a former senior administration official. "She's the most distinguished and qualified by traditional measures. She has the strongest support among the legal conservatives who have dedicated their lives to the court. She will contribute most to the court's jurisprudence in the years and decades to come."

Barrett, a judge on Chicago's 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, was reportedly a top contender for a Supreme Court seat in 2018, after the seat was vacated by Anthony Kennedy. However, Justice Brett Kavanaugh was chosen.

A devout Catholic, Barrett is pro-life and has and an "originalist," who believes the Constitution cannot evolve or change over time. Trump plans to make his announcement Saturday afternoon.
