Former New York City mayor and Wall Street billionaire Michael Bloomberg has helped raise nearly $16 million to pay fines for 32,000 felons in the state of Florida to restore their right to vote, according to the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition.

"The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy and no American should be denied that right," said a Bloomberg spokesperson. "Working together with the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, we are determined to end disenfranchisement and the discrimination that has always driven it."

The move comes after a 2018 ruling that states felons in Florida may have their voting rights restored after paying all fines, fees, and restitution to the government.
