In anticipation of the response to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron's decision in the Breonna Taylor case, the Louisville Metro Police Department has declared a state of emergency. Interim LMPD Chief of Police Robert Schroeder wrote in a memo, "To ensure we have the appropriate level of staffing to provide for public safety services and our policing functions, effective immediately the LMPD will operate under the emergency staffing and reporting guidelines as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Response Plan and collective bargaining agreements until further notice."
As a result of the declaration, all LMPD officers were notified that off-days and vacation requests are canceled. These measures are clear signs that Cameron's decision won't be one the public is looking for, especially after months of sustained calls for the officers involved in Taylor's murder to be arrested and charged.
