According to reports, Danny Gonzalez, boxing prodigy under Floyd Mayweather's Money Team Promotions, was shot dead at a Labor Day picnic in Moreno Valley, CA. Authorities are still investigating the matter but confirmed that Gonzalez was hanging out with friends around 9 PM on Sept. 7 when an armed assailant approached the boxer and opened fire. The 22-year-old pugilist was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are very sad to report the tragic death of boxer and top prospect, Danny González," said WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman. "We send our deepest condolences and prayers to the Gonzalez family at this hard time. May Danny rest in eternal peace."

Gonzalez signed his deal with TMT Promotions in 2016 when he was just 18-years-old. At the time, Mayweather Jr. praised Gonzalez for his bright future and dominant amateur record of 96-13. Gonzalez fought just three professional fights before taking a break from the sport. Just this year, Gonzalez announced that he'd be making a comeback to the ring.
