According to reports, a fierce opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin—Alexei Navalny is in a coma after a suspected poisoning. The staff of Navalny believes the man was poisoned before he was supposed to hop on a domestic flight.
Navalny was reportedly at a Siberian airport and drank some tea before he was supposed to board a flight to Moscow. While on the airplane, Navalny became ill, and it was noted he needed immediate medical attention. This resulted in an emergency landing in Omsk, which is near Kazakhstan. An ambulance took Navalny to the local hospital, but he fell into a coma before getting to the facility.
A spokesperson from Navalny’s team noted that his wife and team had been barred from seeing Alexei Navalny in the hospital, and they are alleging foul play. An associate of Navalny named Vladimir Milov said, “The medics are being totally commanded by the FSB and hardly release anything.” The FSB is the successor agency to the KGB, who served as internal security.
