According to reports and video footage, a Black man was fatally shot 11 times by police as he walked away from them.

The incident took place at a gas station in Lafayette, Louisiana, after police responded to a reported disturbance. An eyewitness on the scene noted almost a half dozen police showed up and ordered the man on to the ground, to no avail. In the footage, the man is reportedly holding a knife, and the police tried to tase the man as he continued to walk after their warning according to the eyewitness.

Once the man reached for the door of the convenience store, police fired off 11 shots, resulting in the death of the man. A Louisiana State Police spokesman said the man was previously involved in an altercation at an intersection before the shooting. As a result of the shooting, the officers involved were put on administrative leave with pay while the investigation takes place.
