Previously, news surfaced that discussions related to a stimulus for Coronavirus relief broke down this past week in Washington, which led Trump to say he would be signing intervening if Democrats kept “stonewalling” the aid. Now, news surfaced, noting Trump has signed four executive orders related to coronavirus relief.

One of the orders is geared towards unemployment benefits, with the previous $600 extra supplement per week expiring at the end of July. In the order Trump signed, it was revealed that Americans would be getting $400 per week as a supplemental unemployment payment, which is a cut from the initial $600. Along with that, Trump said the states would be responsible for funding 25% of the payment, while the government would handle the other 75% of the benefits. Trump spoke on the cuts related to unemployment benefits, saying, “This is the money they need. This is the money they want. This gives them an incentive to go back to work.”

Despite the gesture, Trump’s executive orders may be met with legal action. The programs mentioned in the order signed by Trump would require federal funding. Congress controls the federal funding needed for this order.  Trump also signed an order that put a freeze on evictions in federal housing as well as a hold on student loan payment until the end of the year.
