Florida is in the news again, this time because a drunken man decided that a child being safe and trying to avoid coronavirus was not the right thing to do. Reports noted that a 47-year-old drunk white man named Jason Copenhaver allegedly spit in the face of a child who was wearing a mask in a restaurant.
The incident went down in Pinellas County, Florida, at Ricky T’s and found the man walking into the establishment and approaching a young boy who was sitting at a table close by. Police said Copenhaver walked up to the boy at the table and told him to take his mask off. Along with that, the man reportedly asked if the boy if he could shake his hand. When the boy said no, the man grabbed the boy’s arm and got close enough to him so that his spit could land on the boy. Police said the man reportedly told the boy, “you now have coronavirus.”
A worker at the restaurant took the intoxicated man outside and pinned him to the ground until police arrived on the scene. Copenhaver was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and simple battery.
