According to reports, former Bad Boy rapper Loon, has been released from prison after serving eight years. XXL Mag obtained documents from Florida's Federal Correctional Institution Coleman Low, stating that Loon received a compassionate release after filing for "instant compassionate release" on June 2.
Loon, born Chauncey Hawkins but later changed his name to Amir Junaid Muhadith after converting to Islam, filed paperwork in June claiming that he suffers from latent tuberculosis and has also faced battles with acute laryngopharyngitis, acute bronchitis, and bronchopneumonia, making him more susceptible to contracting the coronavirus.
The former rapper was scheduled to be released in August 2021 but a judge granted his release during a hearing on July 26. The court ultimately decided in Loon's favor because they don't believe he will be a threat to the community upon his release.
"He has spent significant time in custody and has demonstrated an ability to comport with the rules," read part of the ruling. "If released, he will reside with family and will be required to complete a term of supervised release during which his conduct will be monitored by Probation. Based on the foregoing, defendant has demonstrated that extraordinary and compelling reasons warrant a reduction in his sentence and that a sentence reduction otherwise comports with the applicable statutory and policy requirements."
Loon was originally arrested on drug charges back in May 2012. He was sentenced to 168 months prison in addition to four years' worth of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 1 kilogram or more of heroin.
