Update 07/14/2020 2:49am:
In the wake of his antisemitic Instagram post and subsequent apology, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has accepted an invitation to visit Auschwitz during a Zoom call with a survivor of the infamous Nazi concentration camp.
"I grew up in Los Angeles, and never really spent time with anyone from the Jewish community and didn't know much about their history, this has been such a powerful experience for me to learn and educate myself," said Jackson during the Zoom call. "I want to take the proper steps to let people know that I never intentionally had any hatred in my heart, I never wanted to put the Jewish community down, I want to educate myself more and help bridge the gaps between all different cultures."
Jonny Daniels, the founder of From The Depths, the organization arranging the trip, said: "We are working with DeSean and his team to set dates for this trip to go ahead and are happy that DeSean agreed."
Update 07/07/2020 7:07pm:
After the continued backlash from an antisemitic Instagram post, Desean Jackson has taken to social media to issue an apology. Jackson said that his intentions weren't to "put any race down, especially the Jewish community" with the post. He added that he shouldn't have shared anything attributed to Hitler despite the message he was attempting to get across.
Jackson continued his apology in the caption as he wrote:
"I post a lot of things that are sent to me. I do not have hatred towards anyone. I really didn’t realize what this passage was saying. Hitler has caused terrible pain to Jewish people like the pain African-Americans have suffered. We should be together fighting anti-Semitism and racism. This was a mistake to post this and I truly apologize for posting it and sorry for any hurt I have caused."
Update 07/07/2020 12:29pm:
Ex-Eagles president Joe Banner recently caught word of DeSean Jackson’s anti-semitic social media posts and responded to them via Twitter.
While on Twitter, Banner said “If a white player said anything about (African Americans) as outrageous as what DeSean Jackson said about Jews tonight there would at least be a serious conversation about cutting him and a need for a team meeting to discuss. Which would be totally appropriate. Absolutely indefensible.”
Since Jackson’s posts were made, the Eagles responded to the situation, saying they will continue to evaluate the situation, and they are “disappointed.” Stay tuned for more details.
Original 07/07/2020 10:13am:
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson came under fire for posting a fake quote from Hitler supposedly stating he would start World War III to stop white Jews in America from oppressing the Black community. The quote reportedly started circulating in 2017 and claimed to be from a book that made no argument of Hitler defending Black people.
The quote that DeSean posted twice on Instagram showed clear Anti-Semitism, and Jackson stated that he has no hate for the Jewish community. He continued to defend the quote by blacking out most of the message and keeping a passage claiming the Jews will extort America as part of their plan for world domination.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman are both Jewish and have not responded to the situation so far.
