According to reports, Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney announced that a hate-crime investigation is underway after a self-proclaimed Ku Klux Klan "president" drove his truck into a group of Black Lives Matter protesters during a demonstration over the weekend.

Harry Rogers, 36, was charged with attempted malicious wounding, destruction of property, and assault and battery. Following Rogers' hearing on Monday, a Henrico judge denied him bond. A Henrico Police spokesperson said, “Several witnesses reported that a vehicle revved their engine and drove through the protesters occupying the roadway." Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Rogers reportedly told authorities that he was the highest-ranking member of the KKK in Virginia and the second highest-ranked member not to be imprisoned. In a statement released after the Rogers court hearing, Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor said, “The accused, by his own admission and by a cursory glance at social media, is an admitted leader of the Ku Klux Klan and a propagandist for Confederate ideology,” adding, “We are investigating whether hate crimes charges are appropriate.”

"We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” Taylor continued. “We lived through this in Virginia in Charlottesville in 2017. I promise Henricoans that this egregious criminal act will not go unpunished. Hate has no place here under my watch.”
