According to the Wall Street Journal, nearly a third of American apartment renters skipped out on rent for the month of April. Put another way, only 69% of all U.S. apartment renters paid any portion of their rent for the month, compared to the 81% rate during the month of March. This information comes on the heels of more than 10 million U.S. citizens filed for unemployment benefits amid the coronavirus pandemic. The National Multifamily Housing Council surveyed roughly 13.4 million units for the report.
