Nearly 60% of U.S. Workers Say They Can't Meet Needs for Month Quarantine

According to Newsweek, roughly 60 percent of United States' workers say they will not be able to meet their basic needs for the proposed monthslong quarantine. In a survey released by the Society for Human Research Management (SHRM), 58 percent of workers say they will have difficulty paying rent, buying groceries, and paying for prescription medicine. A staggering one in five workers believes they won't have the resources available to cover those necessities for a week. 

Johnny C. Taylor Jr., the president, and CEO of SHRM said of the group's findings, "This has a real impact on people's lives and it's creating a level of stress that cannot be overstated," adding that many Americans exist "right on the margins of paycheck to paycheck." 

Congress passed legislation for a $2 trillion stimulus that they hope will help mitigate the economic fallout from the coronavirus. Working-class Americans making less than $75,000 annually will receive a one-time $1,200 payout from the government.
