Previously, Akon revealed that he was creating a city in Senegal that relies on renewable energy and uses his cryptocurrency Akoin as a form of currency in everyday life. Now, the singer-turned-mogul revealed that he finalized the agreement to make the city come to life.
While on Nick Cannon’s radio show last year, Akon noted that he planned on created a city that was “100% crypto-based,” and also said the city was going to be called Akon City. The mogul said “It’s a 10-year building block so we’re doing it in stages. We started construction in March and stage two is going to be 2025.”
