Gervonta Davis made his lightweight debut against Yuriorkis Gamboa and ended up making a stop in the 12th round with his third and final knockdown.

Gamboa was giving Davis a run for his money, showing a lot of heart, but it was a left uppercut to the gut in the 12th round that ultimately dropped Gamboa for the third time, which caused the referee to call the fight. As a result, Gervonta Davis was able to get the vacant WBA secondary lightweight title.

Davis spoke on the fight, saying, “I was focused on catching him with clean shots. I'm hurting him but he's not going anywhere. I knew I was in a fight and was going some rounds tonight. I'm only 25 years old so I'm learning each and every day."
