Hollywood stars came out to celebrate the life of John Witherspoon on Tuesday (November 5). Witherspoon died at his home in Sherman Oaks, California, on October 29th at age 77.

Among the celebrities at the event were Witherspoon's Friday castmates Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Tiny Lister, and Anna Maria Horsford, who played Witherspoon's wife in the movie. Also present was David Letterman, who is godfather to Witherspoon's son, John David. Letterman spoke at the event, calling Witherspoon a "tremendous friend," and he stated that Witherspoon's "career was built on the love that he gave to everybody through his various performances." 

Others who attended the ceremony included comedian Garrett Morris, The Boondocks’ Kym Whitley, actress Tamala Jones, The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder, Bill Bellamy, and director Robert Townsend. Check out the above slide to see more photos from the event.
