Recently, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo made an appearance on WAMC radio. While on the topic of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Cuomo began to speak on slurs used against Italian Americans in the United States in the past.

Cuomo spoke on a New York Times op-ed that ran this past weekend and said that Sicilians (Southern Italians) were referred to as “quote-unquote and pardon my language, but I’m just quoting the Times: ‘n****r wops.’ n-word wops, as a derogatory comment." From there, he didn’t flinch and went right into another example of Albany Times-Union criticizing his brother. Listen above.
