Update 08/30/2019 1:15pm:

It was recently reported that Toronto police arrested Abdulkadir Handule for the 2018 shooting death of OVO affiliate Smoke Dawg. Handule appeared in court last week on two first-degree murder charges for killing Smoke Dawg, born Jahvante Smart, and music manager Ernest Modekwe, aka Koba Prime.

The two men and a woman were shot outside of Cube Nightclub on Toronto's Queen Street West on June 30, 2018, causing a panic in the streets. The woman survived the attack, but Smoke Dawg and Koba Prime were pronounced dead shortly after.

Nationwide warrants were issued for Handule and his 16-year-old accomplice, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Handule was arrested last month in Burnaby, British Columbia, on unrelated kidnapping and forcible confinement charges. He is expected to appear in court again on September 11.

Drake recently released his double album ‘Scorpion,’ and has been pushing along ever since. However, the rapper recently took some time to address the death of 21-year-old Canadian rapper Smoke Dawg.

Via his Instagram story, Drake said “All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating. I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke.”
