According to reports, an administrative judge noted during a hearing that NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo be fired for the Eric Garner chokehold incident that went down in July 2014 during an arrest, ultimately costing the man his life.

Five years ago, Pantaleo was suspended as soon as a departmental verdict was reached, but was put on desk duty. The termination of Pantaleo comes after the Justice Department said they weren’t bringing federal civil rights or criminal charges up against the former officer.

Federal prosecutors have decided not to charge the NYPD officer, Daniel Pantaleo, who was at the center of 2014 encounter that claimed the life of Eric Garner. Attorney General William Barr made the announcement just one day before the five-year anniversary of Garner's death.

The U.S. attorney for eastern New York stated, “The evidence here does not support Officer Daniel Pantaleo or any other officer with a federal civil rights violation,” adding “Even if we could prove that Officer Pantaleo’s hold of Mr. Garner constituted unreasonable force, we would still have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Officer Pantaleo acted willfully in violation of the law.”
