Shaquille O'Neal recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and was asked to give his opinion on both teams in Los Angeles being contenders this season. He was also asked which team would have a better season. It should come as no surprise that the 4x NBA champion, 3 of those titles as a member of the Lakers, would choose the purple and gold. But when asked about joining either team if he were currently in the league Shaq told Kimmel, "Not one of those teams," adding, "I'm from the era where guys wanted to compete and beat each other. So I would ... go on a team that needs a superstar, and I'd teach them guys how to beat the superteams."

Although Shaq said it's "Purple and Gold 'til I die," he paid respect to an all-around Laker great on the court and in the front office, Jerry West, who helped orchestrate the Clippers' off-season moves. "Jerry West is the master, [...] Jerry West knows how to read people, and he probably had a conversation with him [Kawhi Leonard] and was probably just straight up with him."
