Following the explosive miniseries When They See Us about the infamous Central Park jogger case in 1989, the five men now known as the 'Exonerated Central Park 5" have gained overwhelming support from the public as their innocence has been revealed to an entirely new generation.

For that reason, Netflix has recruited Oprah Winfrey to take part in the Netflix follow up special "When They See Us Now," where she interviewed Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymon Santana, Antron McCray and Korey Wise about the newfound attention to their story following Ava DuVernay's four-part series

"You know, here we are 30 years later and not too many things have changed," Richardson said to Oprah during the interview "We're all connected. We're just a modern-day Scottsboro Boys. It's all the same thing. So I'm happy and ecstatic that we can start the conversation now, and make sure there will never be another Central Park 5 and make sure we have the platform to make sure of that."

"It is bittersweet because watching this is painful but it's necessary," Richardson continued, "This needs to be watched and we need to make sure things change now."

The full-length sitdown airs on Netflix Wednesday, June 12.
