Central Park Five Prosecutor Elizabeth Lederer resigned as a part-time Columbia Law School professor on Wednesday (June 12) following a protest from The Black Law Students Association that called on her to quit. This comes after the highly acclaimed Netflix series When They See Us, which chronicles the story of the five teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of raping a jogger in 1989.

Columbia's Dean Gillian Lester commented on the situation, telling Bloomberg, "The mini-series has reignited a painful—and vital—national conversation about race, identity, and criminal justice. I am deeply committed to fostering a learning environment that furthers this important and ongoing dialogue, one that draws upon the lived experiences of all members of our community and actively confronts the most difficult issues of our time."
