As the NFL and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) reportedly plan to form two committees that will study the effects of cannabis on pain management, newly retired defensive end Chris Long revealed on the Dan Patrick Show that he used marijuana on a regular basis throughout his decorated career.

"I'm not a dry snitch I'm not going to put a percentage on how much the league smokes, but I certainly enjoyed my fair share on a regular basis through my career," Long said during the interview, "I was never afraid to say that, but I'm able to say it more explicitly now. Listen, if not for that, I'm not as capable of coping with the stresses of day-to-day the NFL life."

Elsewhere in the interview, the former 2x Super Bowl champion and most recent Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year spoke to how arbitrary the testing in the league already is, noting how he hopes they go in the opposite direction and allow players to use it at their discretion.

Furthermore, Long spoke about the adverse effects of not allowing players to medicate responsibility, pointing out that "in that month or two that you stop, you’re going to reach for the sleeping pills, you’re going to reach for the pain-killers, and you’re going to reach for the bottle a little bit more"
