It's been reported that Tyrann Mathieu has reportedly been targeted in an extortion plot by one of his distant relatives, while the New Orleans man in question was recently arrested and released on $25,000 bond.

According to court documents, Geourvon Sears is accused of asking Mathieu for “$1.5 million deposited into his account,” as he threatened to provide the media with false allegations of sexual misconduct. Furthermore, he also allegedly raised his price when he texted him "$5 million by Friday, I’m done talking, emailing TMZ now.”

Additionally, the 21-year-old Sears allegedly threatened some of Mathieu’s relatives, telling them “I want $1.5 million by Friday or I am going to kill all you all,” as Mathieu’s agent has called the matter a "very private and personal family issue."

"He's dealing with a family member who is dealing with a mental health issue," his agent continued. "Tyrann is fine. His family is fine. They are getting through." Meanwhile, TMZ has confirmed that they were never actually contacted by Sears, who if convicted will be facing up to 20 years in prison.

As for Mathieu, the 27-year-old free safety recently signed a 3-year $42 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
