Earlier this year, Tory Lanez was on a mission to take on all challengers when he proclaimed himself to be the best rapper alive, garnering diss records from multiple artists while also trading words with Dax and Royce Da 5'9''. Additionally, he also received some bars from JR Writer through his diss record "Headshot," though unlike his battles with Don Q and Joyner Lucas the self-proclaimed superstar never responded.

For that reason, J.R. Writer's brother and fellow collaborator Fred Money recently ran into Lanez and asked him why he ran from the challenge, to which the Love Me Now artist explained his decision by noting his respect for the Diplomats veteran as an emcee.

In the video circulating online, Lanez can be seen presumably talking to J.R. on the phone while standing next to Fred Money and his crew, as he made no secret that "n***** grew up listening to J.R."

From there, Lanez can also be heard saying that J.R.'s record was "kinda hot" and that the Harlem emcee "still got it," explaining himself further as to why he ducked the smoke from one of hip-hop's most respected lyricists.
