Update 04/22/2019 1:18pm:

It's just been revealed that YNW Melly's legal situation just got even more serious than it already was, as it's been reported that the state of Florida is seeking the death penalty against the incarcerated rapper.

According to new legal docs obtained by TMZ, the State believes that it can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Melly killed his friends back in October for financial gain, and that the murder was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, and was committed in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner.

Additionally, the documents identify Melly as a "criminal gang member," and reiterate previous allegations that along with his associate YNW Bortlen, he shot up his own car and made it look like they were victims of a drive-by shooting.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Florida is one of 30 States where capital punishment is legal.

According to reports, rapper YNW Melly has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.

The rapper was previously arrested in February for the alleged double murder. Court documents filed by Miramar Police department investigators say evidence that was on the scene of the shooting go against the claim made that YNW Sakchaser and July were murdered in a drive-by. Investigators ended up saying the two YNW members were allegedly shot from inside the Jeep they were riding in with YNW Melly.

The rapper is scheduled to be arraigned today.
