Powerful explosions rang out in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday as many gathered for the holiday mass. Police are calling the explosions a coordinated terrorist attack carried by a single organization/group. In addition to the churches, popular tourists hotels were also targeted to bring the total casualties to 207 with at least 450 people injured.
The New York Times documents that the attacks began at 8:45 am targeting: "Roman Catholic houses of worship — St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo, the capital; St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo; and Zion Church in Batticaloa — along with three luxury hotels: the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand, and the Kingsbury, all in Colombo."
