Conor McGregor is quite possibly one of the most self-absorbed athletes in recent memory so certain stunts and antics all feed the beast in the end. That could explain why McGregor's latest announcement comes as a surprise but could also be a ploy for more attention. Nevertheless, The Notorious MMA announced that he would be retiring from the sport that has brought him global fanfare. He wrote on Twitter:

Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today. I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!

This isn't the first time that McGregor has pulled the retirement card. He also spoke about it back in 2016, tweeting: "I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later." Despite pulling this move before, it should be interesting to see if McGregor has really transitioned out of the sport and what his post-fighting endeavors will end up being.
