After a team investigation, the Utah Jazz banned the fan who hurled insults at Russell Westbrook which he claims carried racial implications.

The Jazz released a statement following the decision, writing, "The Utah Jazz and Larry H. Miller Group announced today a permanent ban of the fan who engaged in the inappropriate interaction with the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook last night at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The ban is effective immediately and includes all arena events.

"The organization conducted an investigation through video review and eyewitness accounts. Russell Westbrook got into a nasty spat with a Utah Jazz fan during Monday's matchup in Salt Lake City. According to Russ, the Jazz fan made an incendiary comment that carried racial implications which he felt compelled to address. After the game, Westbrook had an opportunity to speak to the media about the situation where he expressed that he will no longer tolerate disrespect from the fans. On the flip side, the fan in question said that he thought the exchange was all in fun between an opposing player and fan. In the end, the fan gave Westbrook his respect for his on-court prowess but said he's one of the most classless players in the league.

Russell Westbrook has social media ablaze after video of his recent verbal altercation with a couple in Utah went viral. Westbrook was recorded telling the couple, "I'll f--k you up. You and your wife. I'll f--k you up." According to the former MVP, "a young man and his wife in the stands told me 'to get down on my knees like you used to.' To me, that's just completely disrespectful, to me, I think it's racial, and I think it's inappropriate."

After the game, the Utah Jazz issued a statement concerning the matter:

We are continuing to investigate the unfortunate exchange at tonight’s game between Russell Westbrook and fans. Multiple warning cards were issued by arena security. Players and fans have a shared responsibility to create a safe and respectful environment. If it is determined that any fans violated the NBA Code of Conduct, appropriate action will be taken.

This isn't the first issue Westbrook has had in Utah. Just last April, Westbrook said:

"Here in Utah, man, a lot of disrespectful, vulgar things are said to the players here with these fans. It's truly disrespectful. (They) talk about your families, your kids. It's just a disrespect to the game and I think it's something that needs to be brought up."
