Update 02/12/2019 4:51pm:

Recently, it was reported that Russell Wilson purchased Ciara’s masters from Jive and Epic and that the purchase went down in 2017. Now, sources close to the couple that spoke to Complex said Russell Wilson did not actually buy Ciara’s masters.

This comes after Ciara noted that she owns her masters during the 2019 Makers Conference. She said, “Being able to own my masters has been really cool,” and spoke on the “freedom and flexibility” she has as an artist.

Russell Wilson has made the first significant move for Ciara's new record label Beauty Mark Entertainment (BME)  "where Music intersects with Film, Fashion, Technology & Philanthropy" with the purchase of the masters to her music. This gives Ciara complete control over her catalog and her releases moving forward will come from her BME imprint.

Ciara spoke to Billboard about her journey into launching a label, "There have been moments in the past when I've felt creatively handicapped just because I have to wait for the powers that be to make the decisions for me and then they take a long time, [...] When you feel like you have something that's creatively distinctive, you want to be able to get it out there at the right time. So being able to have that freedom and flexibility is so special."
