In what’s likely to be the most highly anticipated comedy in recent years, Paramount Pictures has announced that not only will there be a sequel to the 1988 blockbuster, Coming to America, but now Eddie Murphy has officially signed on to reprise his role as Prince Akeem.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

Brewer and Murphy worked together in the upcoming biopic Dolemite Is My Name, while the intention will be to bring back the majority of the supporting actors from the first film, including Shari Headley, John Amos, James Earl Jones, and Arsenio Hall.

Although there is no official start date, the hope is that production will begin sometime this year.
