A Chicago jury has decided to convict Shawn “Lil Shawn” Randall for the murder of Vallan Francis, a rival gang member who was shot and killed as he tried to rush his fianceé and three young children to safety.
The only eyewitness who testified was Keisha Leflore, Francis's former fianceé, who took to the witness stand to recant all of what she said to investigators back in 2015. Leflore has been a reluctant witness in the trial having twice ignored subpoenas to testify, whereas a court order by a separate Judge in her new home state was the only reason she was back in Chicago.
Part of Leflore's new testimony is that she couldn't identify the shooter, yet the reason she pointed out Randall in a line-up is that a detective prompted her to. "I told them my kids' father may have said (Randall's) name, I felt like from that, they just took advantage of me."
Despite this eyewitness testimony, it took the jury only 3 hours of deliberation to convict Randall, who now faces a minimum of 45 years in prison.
Prior to the shooting, Randall went by the name Lil $hawn and uploaded a music video with Young Pappy for their record "Shooters," the latter of whom was gunned down only two weeks after the video's release.
