According to a report, Facebook has filed a patent for technology that can track where users go. The new technology is named “Offline Trajectories.”

The news surfaced via Buzzfeed, and said the technology could figure out where you are heading “based at least in part on previously logged location data.” The company also filed a patent for technology that is titled “Location Prediction Using Wireless Signals on Online Social Networks.” The technology can reportedly use the strength of NFC signals from cell phones, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

A spokesperson commented on the patents, saying “We often seek patents for technology we never implement, and patent applications -- such as this one -- should not be taken as an indication of future plans."
