The black market of the sneaker world took a big financial hit this week in China, as over 500,000 pairs of counterfeit Vans and Converse sneakers were destroyed following an extensive investigation.

The original investigation began back in 2015, when Chinese authorities were given a tip that fake Converse were being manufactured in the city of Bengbu to be sold in the Middle East. This led to the location of the factory, where over nine production lines were in operation.

The factory has since been destroyed and four suspects have been arrested, while the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang have led to additional investigations and subsequent arrests and demolitions of each factory.

The current haul of Converse and Vans had an estimated value of $87.5 million.
