Recreational cannabis is now legal in the state of Michigan. The law went into effect on December 6 and allows Michiganders to grow up to 12 plants for personal use and carry up to 2.5 oz on their person. Despite having the right to carry weed on your person in Michigan, the state still prohibits the smoking of marijuana in public spaces.

The Michigan legislature is still ironing out the details about how the state's retail structure will function. The state has until December of 2019 to figure out how this will operate as they will begin accepting applications from potential retail shop owners.

What's more, the newly elected governor Gretchen Whitmer has expressed her intent to begin expunging the records of those convicted of marijuana-related offenses.
