According to Shaun King, the Dallas Police Department issued a warrant for the arrest of the officer who killed Botham Jean. The warrant was for manslaughter. Now, King has said Texas Rangers removed the warrant and reportedly sent the officer home “because she was cooperative.”


Update: A manslaughter warrant has been issued for the unnamed female officer who killed Botham Jean in his apartment after she mistook his apartment for her own.

Dallas Chief of Police U. Renee Hall made the announcement during a news conference and added that a blood sample will be taken to test the officer for alcohol or drug use. During the press conference, Hall called the case "a very unique situation."

According to reports, a black man in Dallas was killed by a police officer after she went into the wrong apartment thinking it was hers, ultimately shooting him to death.

26-year-old Botham Shem Jean came home around 10 P.M. to his apartment which was located in an upscale complex called the South Side Flats. The officer’s encounter with Jean ultimately ended up with her shooting him, with police saying she “fired her weapon striking the victim.”

After the shooting, Jean was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The officer’s name has not been released, and Dallas Police Sgt. Warren Mitchell said the officer has yet to be interviewed. Along with that, he said, “We still have a lot to do in this investigation.”
