Dallas rapper Nykees "NaNa" Campbell, 20, was originally facing 6-years after pleading guilty to distributing cocaine, but a judge doubled his sentence due to alleged gang activities that she says Campbell bragged about on YouTube and Facebook.
Campbell, who is the leader of the YNB Stretch Gang in south Dallas, wasn't charged in an ambush robbery where a man was shot eight times as he slept, but he is still a suspect in crimes he's accused of bragging about on Facebook and YouTube. It was also revealed that 13 other YNB members were indicted for drug and gun offenses, with some being sentenced.
District Judge Barbara Mynn addressed Campbell in court, telling him that the words “came out of your mouth” when it comes to the crimes he's suspected of committing. Campbell is accused of several murders in a deadly street war that was started after a member of rival BFG (Ben Frank Gang) threatened to kidnap Campbell's 3-year-old daughter.
Campbell got on the radar of police after a double murder of BFG members that remains unsolved. Detective Eric Barnes says Campbell's YNB gang filmed a video in front of the house where the murders took place, referencing the crime in their lyrics. Detective Barnes testified that when Campbell was arrested in November, the violent crimes linked to YBN stopped.
Dianne Jones McVay, Campbell's attorney, says, "My client is guilty of rapping. They can't prove their murders ... but they want to blame my client for all of them."
