An East Pittsburgh police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old following a traffic stop where the teen decided to flee the scene on foot. The traffic stop stemmed from a call about another local shooting that occurred and the car containing the teen and two other men were stopped because it fit the description of the vehicle involved in the earlier shooting.

Police Superintendent Coleman McDonough told reporters the details about the incident he received stating:

"He stopped the vehicle and attempted to take the driver into custody. At that time, two other men in the vehicle exited and fled on foot, [...] The East Pittsburgh police officer fired at the fleeing suspects. One of those individuals is a 17-year-old male. He was transported to (UPMC) McKeesport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m."

At this time the teen's name has not be revealed nor the identity of the officer who fired the fatal shots. Reportedly, the victim was shot in the back.
