In an interview with ELLE Magazine, Nicki Minaj called the judge residing over rapper Meek Mill's case "very sweet and maternal." Philadelphia Judge Genece Brinkley had been criticized in the past for the way she handled Meek Mill's claim.

Niki Minaj and Meek Mill used to date, and recently, Nicki visited Judge Genece Brinkley to plead for her ex's freedom. "And she gave him another chance," Nicki reportedly said. "So I don’t know what’s going on."

NY Daily News reports that "Brinkley was scrutinized after she hit Mill with a prison sentence." The said sentence for Meek mill was two to four years for violating his parole from a 2008 drug and weapons possession conviction. The artist had been doing his sentence for five months until he was released back in April.

"The judge in question did everything asked of her," Minaj said in an April interview that took place just before his release, "so I can’t badmouth her because I met her personally. I know what she said to us, he knows that, and I know that. But I wouldn't wish jail on anybody."
