White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee expressed gratitude on behalf of the president to Dennis Rodman for his work in helping warm the relations between the US and North Korea.

On Monday, Rodman sat down with CNN's Chris Cuomo prior to the meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un and became emotional when discussing the flak he received for visiting the North Korean leader.

However, in a video captured by Vice News on HBO on Monday, Sanders can be heard thanking the former basketball star for his “helpful” efforts.

“The president had seen some of your comments over the last several days,” Sanders said. “He just wanted me to reach out and thank you for some of the positive things you said and appreciate you being helpful in this process.”

Rodman, who said the progress he made in North Korea was ‘brushed off” by the Obama administration, enthusiastically told Sanders to thank Trump for him.
“When you see Donald next time can Donald say hi to me and say, ‘Dennis, I would love to shake your hand,'” Rodman said.

Sanders said she would give the president the message but “today may be a little crazy but we’ll try and do something when we get back to the states.”
